Aleph One on AOL Instant Messenger

Before the #alephone IRC channel became as “popular” as it is today, and before a metaserver existed to allow people to play games easily, there was the Aleph One chat room on the AOL Instant Messenger servers. These were interesting times, when Ryoko was just beginning to test Red Spectrum publicly, when I was wreaking havoc with AORPG, and when W’rkncacnter was being the best keyboarder on earth. Then we got the meatserver and the chat room suddenly became locked.

Thanks to Appleswitch, I now have in my possession chat logs from that period of time, intermittent conversations from April 29 to October 12 2005. I’ve converted them to slightly more readable HTML and split the giant text file into daily digests. You can read the HTML here, and if you’re hard-core, you can pick up the text file here (~764kb, BZipped).

#A1 spy log beack online

After some odd downtime, the spy log has returned with a vengeance, running via my constant IRC connection on the newly-christened boretower. There’s a gap of nearly a week, but I think you’ll forgive me. Thanks to Thermo for getting my ass moving on that one.

Treasured Memories

So I dug up some pictures from various sources. The first series is from a spoof Marathon fan-fiction I wrote a good two and a half years ago to make fun of the general idea of Marathon fan literature (this was before Gao came along and changed my opinion entirely; more on that in a later entry). I wish I could find the text, but as you will be able to tell from the pictures, the story was an incoherent crossover piece that involved such universes as The Matrix, Magic: The Gathering, The Magic Schoolbus, Star Wars, The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged.

I really hated the crossover theories that were prevalent at the time, such as the classic Halo/Marathon theories. I’m surprised that we haven’t had more of the same lately; maybe all those guys went back to ESB. The thought of fan-fiction has got me all riled up to tackle the subject in greater depth…

The second bunch originally came from the House of Luck blog, back when I still played. Some new guy claimed I was a hacker while we played on UtR, while at another point, JC accused me of stalking him, his team mates of betraying him, and my maps of being shitty. JC always was good for a laugh. I sometimes think I miss him, but he shows up on Pfhorums again and reminds me why I’d rather never see him again.
